Derek Fisher Tells NBA Players’ Association He Won’t Resign As President

The dispute between NBA Players Association head Billy Hunter and president Derek Fisher has only gotten worse. Earlier in the week, the NBPA Executive committee voted 8-0 to ask Fisher to resign as president following Fisher's request to contract a legal firm to look into the union's business and hiring practices. Fisher, however, has vowed not to resign, saying so in a memorandum that was obtained by Ken Berger of CBS Sports.

In a memo to executive committee members, National Basketball Players Association president Derek Fisher vowed Friday not to resign and urged his fellow board members to live up to their “fiduciary responsibility” to the membership by moving forward with an audit of the union’s business practices, CBSSports.com has learned.

This dispute comes on the heels of a growing divide between Hunter and Fisher that began near the end of the NBA lockout. Following Fisher’s request for an audit, Hunter convinced the executive board that such measures were not necessary, and now, those board members have turned against Fisher. A union member told CBS Sports that Fisher has “lost the trust” of the players.

Both Hunter and Fisher have two years left on their contracts with the NBPA.
