Enormous Consequences: Clippers Attempt To Clinch Homecourt Advantage
There are just seven games on the NBA slate for the penultimate day of the regular season. Considering the 16 teams headed to the postseason are already known, there aren’t a lot of enormous consequences happening over the next couple of days.
That doesn’t mean the schedule only features games without consequences, however, as there are a few meaningful matchups that will help determine playoff seeding, matchups and homecourt advantage as the NBA season winds down.
The most important game on Wednesday night will take place between the Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks on national television (8 p.m., ESPN). The Clippers are attempting to hold off the Memphis Grizzlies for homecourt advantage during their matchup in the first round of the playoffs. The Knicks have a chance to move ahead of the Orlando Magic (if they win out and the Magic lose out) for the right to play the Indiana Pacers instead of the Miami Heat in the post season's opening round.
The Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks could have been playing an enormously important game on Wednesday night (8 p.m., NBA League Pass), but that option was eliminated when the Bucks were eliminated from playoff contention. Instead the Sixers will potentially be playing to jump the Knicks, moving up from the eighth seed to the seventh seed in the playoffs provided they're able to win out and New York loses the game mentioned above.
The Denver Nuggets and Oklahoma City Thunder game (8 p.m., NBA League Pass) should be a fun game to watch, but there aren't a lot of enormous consequences considering the Thunder are locked in to the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. The Nuggets could potentially drop from their current sixth seed to the seventh seed, however, with a couple of losses combined with wins by the Dallas Mavericks.
The rest of Wednesday night's games have zero consequences as far as the next couple of months are concerned. The San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns (10:30 p.m., ESPN) will play an old-timers game and the Chicago Bulls and Indiana Pacers game (7 p.m., NBA League Pass) will feature a pair of the top three teams in the Eastern Conference.
Oh, and there are lottery ball consequences! The Charlotte Bobcats are attempting to continue their epic losing streak against the Orlando Magic (7 p.m., NBA League Pass) while the Washington Wizards and Cleveland Cavaliers maybe add to their chances at winning a top pick (7 p.m., NBA League Pass). Yay basketball!
