Tyson Chandler Status Update: Knicks Center To Start Vs. Miami Heat

Despite battling the flu, New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler is listed as the team's starting center for their 2012 NBA Playoffs opener against the Miami Heat. Chandler had been announced as a game-time decision by coach Mike Woodson, but it appears he will give it a go for the 3:30 p.m. game.

It remains to be seen how effective Chandler will be. Several reporters who saw him try to warm up noted that he did not look anything like himself when he tried to shoot. If he is not at 100 percent, the Knicks would probably try to play either Amar'e Stoudemire or Jared Jeffries at center for long stretches of the game.

Chandler is a very important player to the Knicks’ success, as he shoots 68 percent from the field and anchors their much-improved defense. With Chandler not at 100 percent, the Knicks’ chances of stealing Game 1 in Miami just got tougher.
