Derrick Rose Injury A Torn ACL, Bulls Guard To Miss Rest Of Playoffs

The news on Derrick Rose’s injury is in, and it isn’t good. The Chicago Bulls star suffered a torn ACL and MCL in the closing minutes of the team’s 103-91 NBA Playoffs opener against the Philadelphia 76ers, the team announced Saturday afternoon.

The injury took place with one minute and 10 seconds left in the game and the Bulls leading by 12 points. Rose attempted to make a jump-stop move on Philadelphia’s Spencer Hawes, but landed awkwardly on his left knee and stayed on the ground.

Rose missed 27 games during the regular season with a number of nagging injuries, and the Bulls still ended up tied for the league’s best record, so they are capable of playing well without their superstar. Still, the injury is a huge blow to their NBA title hopes. Coach Tom Thibodeau will likely be second-guessed for months for leaving Rose in the game despite the comfortable lead.
