Tyson Chandler Injury: Knicks Center Leaves Holding Elbow Vs. Bulls

UPDATE: From the Knicks, via Howard Beck, Chandler has an elbow contusion. He’s available to play.

***

The Knicks dream start vs. the Bulls turned sour when Tyson Chandler appeared to suffer an elbow injury toward the end of the first quarter. Chandler clutched his elbow and then motioned to the bench for a substitution before heading into the tunnel with the trainer and team doctor.

New York led 31-19 after the first quarter.

Chandler returned to the bench, but appeared to still be in pain. The severity of the injury remains to be seen.

The Knicks have been the best defensive team in the NBA since Mike Woodson took over as head coach 12 games ago, and Chandler -- an elite post defender -- has been the biggest catalyst of that culture change.

Chandler, who also leads the NBA in field goal percentage this season, had four points and two rebounds in nearly 10 minutes. He also picked up his 11th technical foul of the season for slapping the ball out of Carlos Boozer's hands after the whistle.
