Amar’e Stoudemire Apologizes To Fans, Knicks For Injury

Amar'e Stoudemire left AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami with his hand bandaged and his arm in a sling on Monday night, the result of losing a fight with the glass enclosure of a fire extinguisher soon after after the Knicks dropped to 0-2 in their first-round series against the Heat. His status for Game 3 on Thursday is still undecided, but it's quite possible that he's already played his last game of the season.

Stoudemire didn’t speak with reporters before leaving on Monday, but he took to Twitter early Tuesday morning to apologize:

The Knicks previously lost rookie point guard Iman Shumpert to a torn ACL in Game 1, as Tyson Chandler lamented to reporters after Game 2. From the New York Post:

“We just know that he has a laceration and he’s probably going to be out,” Chandler said. “I don’t know how bad it is. Amar’e is a huge piece to this team. Without him, it’ll make it more difficult. We already lost one player in the starting lineup [in Shumpert]. That’s two players out of the starting lineup. It makes it tougher.

“Your emotions run high. In a split second, a decision can alter things. You can’t fault anybody. We’ve got to deal with the repercussions.”
