Derrick Rose Injury Update: Bulls Expect Star To Return In Late-December, According To Report

Derrick Rose's torn ACL not only ended the Chicago Bulls' 2012 NBA title hopes, but it will affect them into the 2012-13 season. As of now, it looks like the Bulls are not expecting Rose to fully recover until late December, according to a report by Neil Hayes of the Chicago Sun-Times.

The usual recovery time for someone undergoing ACL surgery is 6-9 months. The Sun-Times has learned that Rose was told to expect an eight-month rehabilitation, which would allow him to return to the Bulls in late December or early January. However, Rose has been told that he could be back playing basketball within four to five months, although not at the elite level required in the NBA.

A 4-5-month recovery would be very fast. The best comparison might be Indiana Pacers forward David West, who torn his ACL in February of 2011 and struggled early in the 2012 season as he recovered. He was healthy enough to play by December, 10 months after the injury, but it took him a couple months to find his legs.

The good news is that the surgery went well for Rose. However, the Bulls probably can't expect him to be himself until late next season.
