Celtics Vs. 76ers, 2012 NBA Playoffs Game 3: Garnett, Celtics Find Offensive Rhythm To Take 60-49 Halftime Lead

The first half of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals was a tale of two quarters. In the first, the Boston Celtics looked old and flummoxed. In the second, Kevin Garnett was pretty much perfect.

Garnett led all scorers with 17 points in 18 minutes, and the Celtics are ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers 60-49 at the half, an offensive explosion we have not seen from either team yet in this series.

As our own Mike Prada pointed out, Garnett is heavily reliant on the mid-range jumper (the high-school 3-pointer) and the turnaround jumper. It’s no secret, but somehow 76ers defenders continue to allow him to get open looks at the hoop, and it’s what swung this game in favor of the C’s, as Garnett is shooting 8-of-11 from the floor.

Jrue Holiday and Thaddeus Young have 10 points each for the Sixers, but Philadelphia is trailing due to struggles in the half-court offense. Because the Celtics are shooting 55 percent, there has been limited opportunities for Doug Collins' club to get easy baskets in transition.
