The annual NBA Draft lottery is either always all sorts of fun or extremely depressing, depending on where your favorite team ends up following the announcement of which non-playoff team is being given a chance to add a potentially franchise-altering player. The 2012 edition should be no different.
2012 NBA Draft Lottery Odds: Bobcats, Wizards At Top
The Charlotte Bobcats and Washington Wizards have the best odds of winning the 2012 NBA Draft lottery and, therefore, adding Anthony Davis to their roster. If things get crazy, though, there are 11 other teams hoping to get lucky on Wednesday night.
SB Nation’s own Tom Ziller has already looked at the top prospects and what they might be thinking as things unfold on Wednesday night. With the players out of the way, then, let’s look at which franchises have the best odds of bringing in the fresh talent.
The Charlotte Bobcats have the best chance at receiving the top pick -- an even 25 percent -- after finishing with one of the worst seasons in NBA history this past year. On the other end of the spectrum, though, there's also a 35 percent chance that they fall to fourth place when the lottery results are revealed.
The second best chances to win Wednesday night's lottery belong to the Washington Wizards. Former top pick John Wall and friends have a 19.9 percent chance of winning the lottery and 18.78 percent chance of staying in their current second-place slot.
Following the Wizards and Bobcats are the Cleveland Cavaliers and New Orleans Hornets -- the last two teams with a better than a 10 percent chance to take home the top pick. The two teams finished the regular season with identical records, but the Cavs won a postseason coin flip to give themselves an 13.8 percent chance at the top pick, thereby dropping the Hornets to a still pretty 13.7 percent chance of picking first overall.
