The Charlotte Bobcats, in a goodwill gesture to their fans, opened up Time-Warner Cable Arena to fans to watch the NBA Draft lottery together. It was a really nice thing to do, and the handful of fans who actually showed up surely appreciated it.
The NBA Party No One Attended
Now, before you bash Bobcats fans, a few caveats. As Rufus On Fire’s Ben Swanson noted on Twitter, this was a draft lottery party on a random Wednesday night, so expecting a full building was expecting wayyyy too much. Also, there could very well have been far more fans sitting in the section of the stadium behind where the person was filing.
That said, all this really proves is that the franchise has a lot of work to do to rebuild a fanbase that has never been very large and has certainly gotten smaller after the team’s historically-awful 2011-12 season. The first step: offering two years of season tickets for the price of one year. Seems like a good way to begin.
