Paul Pierce Injury: Celtics’ Star Heads Back To Locker Room With Leg Injury

UPDATE: Pierce is back in to start the second half.

The Boston Celtics are blowing out the Atlanta Hawks in Game 4 of their 2012 NBA Playoffs first-round series on Sunday night, but they may have suffered a critical injury to one of their players. Star forward Paul Pierce injured his leg trying to guard Josh Smith and was taken back to the locker room to be examined. His status remains unclear.

Pierce did walk off on his own power, which is good news for Celtics fans, but the team doctor did go back to the locker room with him.

Prior to the injury, Pierce was on fire, scoring 18 first-half points to lead the Celtics to the blowout score. Pierce has hit eight of his 11 shot attempts and two of his four three-point shots.
