The Real Reason Amar’e Stoudemire Missed A Late Free Throw

With a one-point lead late in Sunday’s matchup with the Miami Heat, Amar’e Stoudemire stepped to the free throw line. He had a chance to put the Knicks up three, making life a little harder on the Heat in crunch time. After making the first, though, he missed the second, and the lead stood at two.

It didn't matter in the end -- Dwyane Wade's desperation shot was off and the Knicks won a playoff game for the first time since 2001. But the miss did frustrate Stoudemire, and added a bit more drama to a game already filled with tensions.

And as we know, Stoudemire doesn’t do tension and emotion too well at times. So why did he miss that free throw? We have an idea.

This is a completely unaltered GIF, of course. You may have been focused on Amar’e at the time, but just out of frame, a fire extinguisher was placing a hex on him. And it paid the price.
