The Charlotte Bobcats need a new head coach after parting way with Paul Silas following their recent disastrous season. It's not the most desirable position in the NBA, but Michael Jordan will need to lure someone solid to turn his franchise around.
Jerry Sloan A Charlotte Bobcats Coaching Candidate, According To Report
The first candidates to hear their name come up have some history behind them, as longtime Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan and North Carolina native Nate McMillan have both mentioned as possible candidates. While McMillan makes sense, Sloan's name came out of left field when the New York Daily News wrote about the rumor on Monday morning (via HoopsHype).
We’re hearing that the Bobcats may take a look at Jerry Sloan to replace Paul Silas. The former Utah Jazz coach would be a tremendous, out-of-the-box choice and the first indication that Jordan is committed to turning his seven-win team around.
The obvious connection between Jordan and Sloan is that they both have their numbers hanging from the rafters in Chicago’s United Center. Beyond that, Jordan has great admiration for the coach he twice defeated in the Finals, at the end of his second three-peat.
It’ll be interesting to see who Jordan is able to lure to Charlotte. Sloan wasn’t anyone’s first guess when it came to a possible replacement for Silas, but he’d be an interesting successor after sitting out this past season following a long career as the head coach of the Jazz.
