The Philadelphia 76ers have begun interviewing potential candidates to replace president of basketball operations Rod Thorn. Thorn has one year left on his contract before entering a five-year “consultant” role.
DiLeo Reportedly Hired As New Sixers’ GM
Berger also reports that while Thorn will remain the team’s president for the time being, DiLeo will eventually take over that position. Thorn had operated as the team’s president and general manager for the 2011-2012 season after the resignation of Ed Stefanski from the general manager position. Stefanski had also been the president and general manager for a time, and it appears DiLeo will also hold both titles sometime down the road.

If you asked anyone associated with the NBA if they’d have interested in being a general manager, they’d probably say yes. Therefore, this “exclusive” report by 94 WIP radio in Philadelphia isn’t really worth much of your time, however funny it may be.
I too would be interested in being the Sixers’ GM, though the working relationship with Doug Collins would make me nervous. If asked, I’d probably say “yes sir” too. Actually, I’d probably say “sure,” but you get the point.

According to Wojnarowski, whether the Sixers actively pursue Ferry may depend on how much say over personnel decisions the organization wants to hand over to Collins. There has been contact between Philadelphia and Ferry, however, so this appears to be more than just a passing rumor.
