Tony Parker may be unable to represent France in the Olympics due to an eye injury suffered earlier this month during a nightclub brawl between musician Chris Brown and members of rapper Drake's entourage. Parker initially told reporters the injury would not prevent him from playing, but he announced Sunday on his website that the injury was much more serious than first thought and required surgery.

I conducted additional tests on Friday afternoon and found a piece of glass that had penetrated 99% left eye. I can say today, I almost lost my eye. So I had surgery on Sunday morning under general anesthesia.
Parker is still in France, but he said he'll return to the U.S. on July 5 at the request of the San Antonio Spurs so that his eye can be examined in New York. At that time, he will learn whether he's been cleared to compete in the Olympics. "The decision is no longer mine," he wrote. "It is in the hands of the physician and San Antonio."
Parker is suing W.i.P., the New York City nightclub where the brawl took place, for $20 million. From CNN:
Parker was “sitting at a separate table, apart from Drake and Brown,” the suit said. “As a result of the altercation at the club that night, (Parker) was caused to suffer severe personal injuries.”
The suit alleges that the owners and operators of the nightclub were “negligent in permitting Drake’s entourage and Brown’s entourage to be in the club at the same time despite known tension between the two” and contends the owners failed to provide “sufficient and efficient security.”
