Orlando Pro Summer League: Celtics Blast Magic From Three-Point Range, Cruise To Victory

ORLANDO -- The Boston Celtics drained 11 three-pointers against the host Orlando Magic on Friday in Orlando Pro Summer League action, rolling to a 94-73 victory to close the week with a 4-1 record.

Star player: Dionte Christmas has never stuck on an NBA roster, though he did earn an invitation to training camp with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2009. The 26-year-old Temple product may just get another shot at the NBA after his strong performance in the Orlando Pro Summer League, which he capped Friday with 21 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Christmas is known as a scorer, but he showed his defensive chops Friday, picking off two inbounds passes. He scored 19 of his 21 in the first half.

Honorable mention: Second-year man E'Twaun Moore isn't a natural point guard, but he played that role for Boston throughout the week and did so admirably. Moore scored 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-4 from long range, and played excellent pressure defense.

Disappointing player: Orlando rookie Andrew Nicholson had been one of the better players throughout the week with his efficient scoring in the post and a knack for rebounding. Friday, however, was a different story. The St. Bonaventure product missed four of his six shots and scored only four points in 23 minutes.

Dishonorable mention: After Maalik Wayns left Orlando's squad to join the Golden State Warriors in Las Vegas, Kevin Anderson had an opportunity to assert himself, as he's the only natural point guard remaining on the Magic's roster. Friday, he missed 10 of his 12 shots and struggled against Moore's defense.

Prospect watch: The Celtics rested rookie big man Jared Sullinger on Friday.

Magic rookie Kyle O'Quinn hauled in nine rebounds in just 18 minutes.

Boston’s Fab Melo snared a game-best 10 rebounds in his strongest performance of the week.
