Lakers To Add Bernie Bickerstaff, Eddie Jordan To Coaching Staff, Per Report

The Los Angeles Lakers will add Eddie Jordan and Bernie Bickerstaff to Mike Brown’s staff as assistant coaches, according to reports.

The Los Angeles Lakers' run of big-name offseason signings rolls on. This time, the team will be adding assistants Eddie Jordan and Bernie Bickerstaff to head coach Mike Brown's coaching staff.

Kevin Ding of the Orange County Register reports that the team will officially hire the two coaching veterans over the next couple of days.

Jordan played for the Lakers in the early 1980s and has been a part of league coaching circles for the past two decades. The 57-year-old has served as the head coach of the Sacramento Kings, Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers.

Jordan will bring to L.A. a deep knowledge of the new Princeton offense. Brown and company said they'll be running the Princeton offense starting this season in hopes of getting the most out of Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol, as well as newcomers Steve Nash and Dwight Howard.

Most recently an assistant with the Portland Trail Blazers, Bickerstaff has been a head coach with the Seattle SuperSonics, Denver Nuggets, Washington Bullets/Washington Wizards and Charlotte Bobcats. The 68-year-old was the first coach of the Bobcats' franchise and also served as its first general manager. Brown's leap into the NBA started thanks to Bickerstaff, who gave Brown an internship with the Nuggets while Bickerstaff was their general manager, according to Ding.

The two new Laker coaches will replace assistant coach Quin Snyder and coaching consultant Ettore Messina, both of whom left L.A. for positions with Russian powerhouse CSKA Moscow.

The final spot on Brown's coaching staff will be filled by Orlando Magic assistant Steve Clifford, reports CSN Northwest.
