Chris Paul Injury Update: Vinny Del Negro Says Clippers’ Star Will Return For Regular Season

The Los Angeles Clippers will have Chris Paul ready to roll at the beginning of the regular season after he recovers from thumb surgery, head coach Vinny Del Negro said Tuesday. The All-Star point guard underwent a procedure to fix a torn ligament in his right thumb and will be out for approximately eight weeks.

Per the Clippers’ website:

"[The surgery] was something we wanted him to get done now so it doesn't bother him later," Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro said. "He'll be back for the start of the season."

Paul initially injured the thumb during the end of last season’s playoffs, according to the Los Angeles Times, and the 6-foot guard aggravated it at the beginning of Team USA’s training camp prior to the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Paul sat out a few practices but didn’t miss a beat during the London games. He started in eight contests and averaged 8.3 points, 5.1 assists and 2.5 steals per game for coach Mike Krzyzewski and the gold-medal-winning Americans.
