Derrick Brown Signs Non-Guaranteed Contract With Spurs

As the start of NBA training camps draws near, teams are looking to bring in players who will not only make practices competitive, but to also see if they'd be good enough to warrant a roster spot. On Thursday, the San Antonio Spurs announced the signing of swingman Derrick Brown to a non-guaranteed contract.

Last season, Brown played for the lowly Charlotte Bobcats who finished with the worst winning percentage in the history of the NBA -- .106 percent -- after ending the 66-game, lockout shortened season with a win-loss record of 7-59. But despite the team's record for futility, Brown actually had a pretty good season individually.

In 65 games with Charlotte last season, Brown made 17 starts and averaged 8.1 points, 3.6 rebounds in 22.2 minutes on the floor. Those were the best numbers of his three-year NBA career.

At 6'7 and 225 pounds, Brown brings an added element to the Spurs with his non-stop motor and athleticism. Of course, San Antonio already has Kawhi Leonard for that, but adding a guy with those skills -- at least in training camp -- is never a bad thing.
