Andrew Bogut still unable to participate in 5-on-5

Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut is still on pace to play in the team's season opener Oct. 31, but has yet to be cleared for five-on-five play, Warriors general manager Bob Myers told SFGate.com on Thursday.

Bogut is recovering from a fractured left ankle that was suffered in January and served as a prelude for his trade from the Milwaukee Bucks to Golden State in March.

Though not quite ready for game action yet, Myers says Bogut is still clearing daily goals, such as jumping drills and tests of lateral movement.

“I understand that there’s a very intense focus on our centers, and it’s magnified because of who (Andrew Bogut) is,” Myers said of the 2005 NBA Draft’s No. 1 overall pick, who is also known as one of the better defensive centers in the league.

The team hopes Bogut will be able to participate in some preseason action in preparation for the regular season, Myers said.
