NBA 3 on 3 Tournament Day 4 Results: Celtics and Wolves Move On

The first week of our hypothetical NBA 3 on 3 Tournament comes to a close and we have our first major upset of the tournament, though our experts were not surprised by the results. We’re now halfway through the first round.

In the East, the 4 seed prevailed against the 13 seed, as the Boston Celtics overcame the Brooklyn Nets, but it wasn't easy. Our panel of experts gave Boston a 67 percent chance of winning a game with the Nets, but Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez stunned the mighty Celtics when the first roll of the dice came up 87. With their backs to the wall, Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett needed to win two straight to advance, and that's just what they did as the next two rolls were 52 and 18. Boston advances to round two where they will face Atlanta, just as they did in last season's playoffs.

Out West, the panel expected the 13-seed Minnesota Timberwolves to knock off the 4-seed Memphis Grizzlies, and that is indeed what happened. Tony Allen, Rudy Gay and Marc Gasol of the Grizzlies were given just a 37 percent chance to win a given game, so Memphis wanted to see some low rolls. Unfortunately for the Grizz, the dice came back 52 and 81, so Ricky Rubio, Andrei Kirilenko and Kevin Love advance in a sweep. The Timberwolves will face the Clippers in the second round.
