Earl Clark gives Lakers fans something to tweet about

The Lakers’ Mr. Irrelevant turned into a real somebody during Wednesday night’s loss to the Spurs, and fans took notice.

Everything's big in Texas, but it's bigger in Hollywood when it comes to the Los Angeles Lakers. The team showcased the good, the bad and the ugly on national TV on Wednesday night.

It was also an opportunity for reserve big man Earl Clark to show his talents for the first time, well, ever, with an impressive line of 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting and 13 rebounds. That includes a clutch three-pointer late in the fourth quarter that put the Lakers within three points, giving them a chance to tie the game.

NBA fans everywhere took notice, and he began trending on Twitter faster than the Lakers have been losing frontcourt players.

The Lakers need a spark; anything that will help dig them out of the deep sub-.500 hole they find themselves in. As these tweets indicate, it may come at Antawn Jamison's expense, but at least it means a shakeup.

Here’s what some fans thought:

Fans in L.A. are kings and queens of hyperbole. This much is certain. But the fans have a point. Clark has earned more playing time.

If there's a major lineup change coming, it's a welcome one. If Clark can bring that kind of game and some much-needed youth and athleticism on the other end of the floor, he needs to be a regular reserve, not the last man on a bad bench.

There’s plenty more where that came from.
