The Sacramento Kings' owners are willing to sell the team to a group in Seattle, but the sale that on Wednesday was deemed done by one report has hit a snag. The Maloof family wants to maintain some decision-making capabilities if they sell the team to a group led by hedge fund manager Chris Hansen, according to a source for The Seattle Times.

The already wild tale of the Sacramento Kings’ possible sale has hit a snag. The Maloofs want to keep some decision-making abilities in the team even if they sell it.

Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski wrote Wednesday that the deal was close to being done. While Wojnarowski’s sources told him that the Maloofs wanted to remain as minority owners, they also said the Maloofs would “have no real input or say in the franchise.”
That doesn’t appear to be what the Maloofs want.
In December, SB Nation’s Tom Ziller wrote of the complicated issues involving the Maloofs themselves. While older brothers Joe and Gavin have remained somewhat visible in running the franchise, brother George Jr. has had disagreements with them in the past.
The Maloofs employ a dynamic that requires the entire clan -- all four boys (including Phil, the youngest who has been to this point uninvolved in the Kings), daughter Adrienne (who you know from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) and matriarch Colleen -- to reach consensus on big decisions. It was that dynamic that led the family to hole up in a Los Angeles mansion for two days in May 2011 as the deadline to file for relocation approached. Gavin and Joe, who wanted to give Sacramento another chance, won that time.
Ziller calls the Maloofs a “proud” family.
And according to the Seattle Times, that’s again an issue. That source told the paper that a sale to the Seattle group won’t be about money. The source says it appears that ownership of the franchise means more to the Maloofs than percentages and dollars.
