Lakers losing because of injuries, according to Jim Buss

The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most disappointing teams thus far in the NBA starting the season with a 15-20 record, but team executive Jim Buss doesn't think it is time to panic just yet. In an interview with ESPN Radio, Buss blamed the slow start on the rash of injuries that the team has had to overcome early in the season.

“I don’t know if we’ve had five games where all our players are playing,” Buss said. “When you have injuries like that, you can’t play enough games together to get chemistry.”

Dwight Howard is currently out with a shoulder injury and won't be reevaluated until sometime next week. Pau Gasol is also out with a concussion leaving the Lakers' frontcourt extremely shorthanded. Steve Nash has missed 24 games this season and his absence may have been the most damaging, although its unclear just how healthy Howard has been the entire season.

This team is built to win and it’s a very, very solid team,” Buss said. “In my mind, we would not consider a temporary fix or blow it up. Why blow up something that we have a future with?”

The Lakers entered play on Thursday with a five-game losing streak and in 11th place in the Western Conference.
