Mavericks launch Dirk Nowitzki bobblehead into space

The Mavericks may be struggling this season, but at least Dirk Nowitzki’s bobblehead is going to outer space. Wait, what?

NBA commissioner David Stern has dedicated a large portion of his tenure working to grow the NBA's brand globally, and the Dallas Mavericks have expanded upon that notion by taking things to an intergalactic level.

According to Dime Magazine, the Mavs sent up a bobblehead featuring the likeness of superstar Dirk Nowitzki and it was glorious.

Nowitzki has been the talk of multiple trade rumors coming out of Big D, but owner Mark Cuban squashed any notion of moving the former league MVP before his contract expires at the end of the 2013-14 season.

Dallas is 16-23 this season and currently sitting in fourth place in the Southwest division. There’s been nothing but turmoil surrounding the franchise while waiting for its team to get back to full strength and underperforming. They’re firmly out of the playoff picture, but that didn’t stop them from having a little fun with the whole thing.
