Danny Ainge: Big Celtics trade ‘doesn’t make a lot of sense’

With the Celtics on the rise following the return of Avery Bradley, GM Danny Ainge says that making a big trade now wouldn’t be logical.

With just over a month remaining before this year's NBA trade deadline, Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge doesn't expect the franchise to make any significant moves in the coming weeks, as he tells CSNNE's Greg Dickerson in a recent interview.

Currently riding a six-game winning streak after a middling start to the season, the Celtics finally appear to be rounding into form now that a healthy Avery Bradley is back in the rotation. The team is still just seventh in the Eastern Conference standings nearly midway through the season, though, with a window of opportunity that’s only getting smaller.

Clearly recognizing that shrinking timetable to win another title, Ainge did admit that the team’s current winning streak has made him feel better about the team’s roster. When asked if he’d be as happy with the current group without the recent wins, Ainge responded, “No, absolutely not.”

Built around aging veterans like Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, the Celtics were seemingly hitting the end of an impressive era just a couple weeks ago when a stretch of eight losses in 10 games dropped the team to three games below .500.

Yet, with the recent streak, one has to wonder whether the return of Bradley provides the team with exactly what it needed. The second-year guard is still rounding into form, especially on offense, but the Celtics have looked noticeably better since his return.

As CelticsBlog notes, the fact that a six-game winning streak seemingly altered Ainge’s perception of the team reflects how quickly things can change in this league. With a good deal of time left before the Feb. 21 trade deadline, it’s probably worth considering the possibility that circumstances change over the coming days and weeks ahead.
