Andray Blatche says Nets ‘had my back’ during sexual assault investigation

The end of Andray Blatche’s career in D.C. didn’t go so well, but the Nets big man says his new team, “has been like a family,” during a season of ups and downs.

USA TODAY Sports

Brooklyn Nets big man Andray Blatche says his current team, "had my back," during the recent sexual assault investigation involving the former Washington Wizard, Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News writes. Police have been investigating Blatche's possible involvement in an alleged incident that occurred in Philadelphia on Jan. 8.

Blatche has always denied any wrongdoing since the investigation began, telling Bondy that he appreciates how Brooklyn has stood behind him during the entire ordeal.

My thing is if you going to preach about being a family, then be a family And so far, this organization has been like a family. They had my back and everything when my whole situation happened. They had my back. They supported me. And that means a lot.

Blatche, who signed with the Nets during the offseason after being amnestied by the Washington Wizards, has spoke poorly in the past of how his career in D.C. ended. Blatche's career in Washington cratered last season as he fell out of shape and struggled on the court, though he's told the media that he believes the franchise didn't properly support him.

Clearly, Blatche doesn’t feel the same way about his employers in Brooklyn, and it’s shown in his resurgent play. Still a talented big man with impressive scoring ability, Blatche has only played 20.5 minutes per game this season, but he’s averaging 11.3 points and six rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the field.
