Utah Jazz guard Mo Williams will undergo surgery and his right thumb on Friday and will miss at least six weeks, according to a team press release.
Williams injured the thumb during the second quarter of the Jazz's 105-89 loss to the Miami Heat on Dec. 22. An initial MRI was inconclusive in terms of the seriousness of the damage in Williams' thumb, but a second scan that took place on Wednesday determined the need for surgery. Williams will be force to wear a cast on the thumb for six weeks, after which he will be re-evaluated by Utah's medical staff.
A 10-year veteran out of Alabama, Williams is averaging 12.9 points and 6.7 assists this season while starting 24 games for the Jazz. Utah has struggled in his absence; including the loss to Miami, the Jazz are 1-4 without their floor general.
