Lou Williams injury: John Jenkins to help fill void for Hawks

Lou Williams tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will miss the remainder of the season.

USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks will be without free-agent acquisition Lou Williams for the remainder of the season, learning on Saturday that he tore the ACL in his right knee against Brooklyn on Friday.

Williams averaged 14.1 points per game this year, which ranked third on the team behind Josh Smith and Al Horford.

Rookie John Jenkins told Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal Constitution that he's capable of stepping up off the bench and helping run the Hawks' offense.

Jenkins said that even though he's not as fast as Devin Harris or Jeff Teague, he feels comfortable running the offense, as he's done that for his entire career at various levels.

Jenkins had nine points and two rebounds in just under 23 minutes in a 98-93 loss to the Spurs in the team's first game without Williams on Saturday. Jenkins is averaging 4.3 points and 1.1 rebounds while shooting 44.4 percent from the field this season.

The Hawks have lost two games in a row and are 2-8 in their last 10.
