Carmelo Anthony's driving layup with 12 seconds left gave the New York Knicks a wild 106-104 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday night at Madison Square Garden. The game-winner, on which he was also fouled by Josh Smith, capped off a 42-point night for the Knicks' superstar.

New York (27-15) led by as many as seven early in the fourth quarter before Atlanta (25-19) stormed back, setting up a frenzied finish that saw numerous lead changes, turnovers and a technical on Anthony. The Hawks grabbed a one-point lead with 1:34 to play on a basket by Al Horford, but did not score the rest of the way. In addition to fouling Anthony on the game-winner, Smith also committed two turnovers in the final minute and missed a potential game-winning three in the final seconds.

Anthony finished the night shooting 15-of-28 from the field and went a ridiculous 9-of-12 from three-point range. Anthony did not get much help from the other Knicks starters, but both Amare Stoudemire and J.R. Smith had 18 points off the bench.

Smith's fourth quarter blunders ruined an otherwise strong game for the Hawks' forward, as he scored 20 points on 9-of-16 shooting. Jeff Teague led Atlanta with 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Horford did not miss a shot all night, scoring 16 points on 8-of-8 from the field. The Hawks lost despite shooting 60.0 percent from the field and outscoring the Knicks 50-22 in the paint.
