Adelman explained that his wife, Mary Kay, is suffering from unexplained seizures that wouldn’t stop until recently. The family is dealing with this issue with the uncertainty of why. But it was at his wife’s urging that Adelman finally released information regarding her condition.
“It’s just a process now,” Adelman said after practice. “We don’t know why. We have no clue why it happened. No one can figure it out. Now it’s a matter of finding it out. How do you manage it? What do you do with it? How do you go forward? ... The good thing is she’s home.”
It’s a difficult set of circumstances for anyone to deal with as one could imagine, so it’s certainly not a surprise that the coach wanted to keep these personal matters to himself. He missed 11 games while he was with Mary Kay during her treatment and several meetings with medical doctors.
Minnesota went 2-9 during Adelman's absence and will look forward to having him back on the sidelines. He feels comfortable enough with his wife's condition that he can return his focus back to the court and helping his reeling squad turn things around. Alexey Shved and Nikola Pekovic are each expected back from injuries and should also provide a lift for the T-Wolves as they climb back into the playoff race.
