For now, the Mavericks have labeled Kaman as out indefinitely with the head injury, which he suffered upon banging his head on the floor of American Airlines Center during Monday’s practice. The league requires players to pass a series of tests in order to return from a concussion, something Kaman must do before he’ll be able to play again.
"He'll be back when his symptoms abate and we don't know a timetable for it. I don't think it's that serious, but these things, you've got to be very careful with, " coach Rick Carlisle said.
Kaman started 33 of his first 42 games with Dallas this season, putting up 12.4 points and 6.2 rebounds in 23.7 minutes per contest.
Without the 7-footer in the lineup, Carlisle says that team will use 6'7" forward Shawn Marion at center if the team decides to go small, but bigger players such as Elton Brand and Brandan Wright will presumably see extra playing time as well.
