Veteran NBA guard Keyon Dooling will not join the Boston Celtics in the wake of a knee injury to point guard Rajon Rondo, according to ESPN.com.

The veteran guard won’t be making a comeback after joining Boston’s front office at the beginning of the season.

Dooling was rumored to be on the team’s radar after Rondo went down, but Boston’s president of basketball operations Danny Ainge dispelled those notions recently. Even afterward, however, the rumors persisted until the player himself acknowledged them via his official Twitter account and put them to rest.
“Hey everyone thank you for all the love and support that you guys give me daily. FYI I won’t be returning this season #StayTuned,” he tweeted.
Dooling is now the director of player development for the Celtics and last played for the team in the 2011-12 season. In 12 NBA seasons, he averaged 7.0 points, 2.2 assists and 19.5 minutes per game, primarily as a reserve. He started 86 out of the 721 games he played in as a professional. Dooling was drafted in the first round with the 10th pick in the 2000 NBA draft.
