Omri Casspi requests trade from Cleveland Cavaliers, according to report

Forward Omri Casspi reportedly requested to be traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers after seeing his playing time plummet.

Soobum Im-US PRESSWIRE

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been asked by Omri Casspi's representatives to seek trades involving the forward, according to Yahoo!'s Adrian Wojnarowski. The Akron Beacon Journal's Jason Lloyd reports that a league source told him that isn't true, and added that Casspi declined comment in an email.

According to league rules, neither Casspi nor his representatives can publicly ask for a trade without risking a fine.

Sources told Wojnarowski that Casspi’s representatives at Creative Arts Agency privately asked Cleveland to gauge interest in the fourth-year forward, who is the first Israeli-born player to play in the NBA. Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant has not yet found a suitor, Wojnarowski reports.

After averaging at least 20 minutes per game in his first three seasons, the 2012-13 year hasn’t been kind to Casspi. He is averaging 13.3 minutes per game this season, but since Dec. 11 has only played one minute after initially falling out of the rotation because of gastroenteritis.

The 23rd overall pick in 2009 started in 35 of his 65 games played last season, his first with Cleveland after being acquired from the Sacramento Kings.

Casspi, 24, has career averages of 8.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. He recorded his best season in the league as a rookie in 2009-10, where he averaged 10.3 points and 4.5 rebounds and made the NBA All-Star Rookie Team.
