Miami Heat to work out Chris ‘Birdman’ Andersen, according to report

Seeking some help on the front line and (apparently) an influx of tattoos to the roster, the Heat will work out free-agent center Chris ‘Birdman’ Andersen over the next couple days.

Seeking some additional depth in the front court, the Miami Heat will work out free-agent center Chris "Birdman" Andersen over the next two days, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports. After completing a physical on Monday, Andersen will be given the chance to impress Heat executives and potentially earn a spot on the roster.

A high-energy big man that can provide relentless defensive effort and a good deal of rebounding skill, Andersen has been on the sidelines since the Denver Nuggets waived him in July using the league's amnesty clause. At age 34, it's not entirely clear how much the 6'10, 230-pound big has left, but he was still pretty effective at the NBA level last year.

Playing in 32 games off the bench for Denver last season, Andersen only averaged 15.2 minutes per game, but he was still active enough to record per game averages of 5.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks. His 18.9 PER was fourth-best on the team, only bested by Kenneth Faried, Ty Lawson and midseason acquisition Javale McGee.

The Heat also freed up a roster spot by releasing big man Josh Harrellson, as Wojnarowski reports. That move leaves Miami with two open roster spots.
