Lakers could use Metta World Peace at center without Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol

Metta World Peace, Los Angeles Lakers center?

USA TODAY Sports

Since joining the NBA, Metta World Peace has been many things, from Defensive Player of the Year to hip hop artist to Ronald William Artest, Jr. One thing he's never been since going pro, though, is the Los Angeles Lakers' center. At least until now, that is.

With injuries sending key big men Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol and Jordan Hill to the sidelines, Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni says that World Peace could see time at center in the coming weeks, according to Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times.

For a season that was already off the rails in L.A., the weird just keeps getting weirder.

Coming in at 6'7, and 260 pounds, World Peace isn't exactly the prototypical option for any team at center, but the Lakers are admittedly no longer in a position to expect such things. With Howard, Gasol and Hill out, the only Lakers taller than World Peace are Antawn Jamison, Devin Ebanks, Earl Clark and rookie Robert Sacre.

Given those underwhelming alternatives, which range from aging stretch fours to inexperienced second round picks, it’s not particularly surprising that D’Antoni is considering using the physical presence of World Peace in the post.

And you guys thought 2012 was a weird year for the Lakers.
