Kevin Love injury: Timberwolves star out ‘a number of weeks’

The Timberwolves will be without their franchise player for the foreseeable future after he broke his right hand last week.

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Love will be out for "a number of weeks" with a broken right hand, according to the Associated Press. Wolves GM David Kahn declined to give reporters an actual timetable for his return, saying that Love will consult a hand specialist in New York before determining a course of action.

At the beginning of the season, Love was forced to sit out for three weeks with a similar injury to the one he’s currently dealing with. The Timberwolves’ star made his season debut in mid-November after initially breaking his hand during the preseason.

Love re-injured the hand while playing the Denver Nuggets last week, leaving the game in the second half. It's not clear exactly when the injury happened, but the usually durable Love didn't play in the fourth quarter as Minnesota nabbed a 101-97 victory.

Through 18 games this season, Love has per game averages of 18.3 points and 14.0 rebounds in 34.3 minutes. Despite the solid scoring average, his efficiency is way down, though, as he’s shooting just 35 percent from the field and 22 percent from three-point range.
