Brendan Haywood injury: Bobcats center out with stress fracture in foot

The Charlotte Bobcats center will miss at least three months because of a stress injury in his foot.

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

The Charlotte Bobcats announced center Brendan Haywood will miss at least three months after undergoing surgery next week to help heal a stress fracture in his left foot. Two screws will be placed in his foot to help the fracture of Haywood's navicular bone heal.

The veteran center will be immobilized for three months and will need to be cleared to return at that point.

Rufus on Fire: More on the Bobcats

Haywood missed the final month of action in 2012-13 due to a stress reaction in his left foot, though it's unclear if the injury is related. He played in 61 games last season and averaged 3.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

Losing Haywood, who played 20 minutes per game last season, certainly hurts the depth of Charlotte's frontcourt, even if he was the third option. The Bobcats' signing of center Al Jefferson and the presence of Bismack Biyombo should help alleviate the loss of Haywood.

The 33-year-old and 12-year NBA veteran has career averages of 6.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game.
