Kendrick Perkins faces misdemeanor assault charge

Kendrick Perkins stands accused of punching a woman and her brother outside of a Houston nightclub last July.

USA TODAY Sports

Oklahoma City Thunder's Kendrick Perkins has been charged with misdemeanor assault stemming from an incident that occurred last July, according to KHOU Houston. Perkins allegedly punched a woman and her brother outside of a Houston nightclub after a getting into a fender bender. Perkins posted a $1,000 bond Thursday, along with his brother-in-law, Quincy Alpough, who faces the same charge.

General manager Sam Presti issued a brief statement regarding the charge. Via Daily Thunder:

“We are aware of the situation and take this matter seriously,” said Sam Presti. “We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”

Mikella Cotton, the alleged victim, said that she and her brother were leaving the club when their car and another vehicle “backed into each other.” Cotton got out of the car to talk to the other driver and was confronted by a female passenger who hopped out of the other vehicle seemingly ready to fight. The incident escalated, and allegedly resulted in Cotton’s brother, Ja’Keenan Cotton, being punched in the head and his sister being punched in the face, both by Perkins.

Alpough allegedly struck another passenger in the car, Catherine McGrue, and knocked her unconscious. All three victims said they were kicked repeatedly after being knocked to the ground.

Perkins was arrested in 2011 for a separate fight at a nightclub, but charges were eventually dropped. The Thunder recently waived DeAndre Liggins after the shooting guard was arrested on charges of domestic violence.
