The Cleveland Cavaliers are already dealing with an injury to one of their big men, so this latest news is especially troubling: Tyler Zeller is out indefinitely after undergoing an appendectomy.

The Cavs sophomore underwent appendix surgery, leaving him sidelined.

Zeller was diagnosed with acute appendicitis on Friday and immediately went under the knife. The team has not given a timetable for his return. Zeller's surgery, coupled with Andrew Bynum's continuing knee troubles, makes the Cavs' initially strong frontcourt depth noticeably shallower. Behind starters Anderson Varejao -- coming back from an injury of his own -- and Tristan Thompson, there's now just rookie Anthony Bennett and Earl Clark.
Zeller, the seven-footer the Cavs drafted with the 17th pick in 2012, put up 7.9 points and 5.7 rebounds in 26.4 minutes per game last year. The skinny big man struggled defending in the post, but an NBA conditioning program in the offseason should have done him some good.
