NBA legend Bill Russell, who now lives in Seattle, was arrested at Sea-Tac International Airport on Friday after a routine screening of his carry-on baggage revealed a handgun packed away. KIRO-TV reports that Russell was cited and released after showing proof he is permitted to carry the firearm and passing a background check.

USA Today’s Sam Amick spoke to an airport spokesman who said that the .38-caliber Smith and Wesson was loaded with six rounds, and that the 79-year-old cooperated fully with authorities. Russell may face fines from the Transportation Security Administration and local authorities.
