Hasheem Thabeet suspended 1 game for headbutt to Greg Stiemsma

The league has punished the reserve center for an incident on Thursday.

USA TODAY Sports

Oklahoma City will be without backup center Hasheem Thabeet for the first game of the regular season after news broke on Monday that he will be suspended for his head-butt on New Orleans Pelicans big man Greg Stiemsma during the Thunder's 105-102 loss on Thursday.

The offense occurred in the second quarter of the game when the two players were involved in an altercation that had to be broken up by officials. Thabeet — the former second overall pick and tallest player in the NBA (7'3) — will serve his suspension on Oct. 30, when the Thunder open their season on the road against the Utah Jazz.

Oklahoma City has several big men on its roster at this point in the preseason, including backup forward Nick Collison and recently drafted center Steven Adams, so depth shouldn't be an issue for the Thunder as they begin their season.
