Joakim Noah could miss Bulls’ season opener against Heat

The Bulls could be without their defensive anchor when they start the season.

The Chicago Bulls open their season against the Miami Heat on Oct. 29 and could be without center Joakim Noah. Noah said that it is "possible" he could miss the game, though he's "not there yet" on a final decision, reports K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune.

Tom Thibodeau added that Noah's conditioning is "not very good." The Bulls pulled Noah for the remainder of preseason because of a groin injury as a "precaution" and are expected to limit his minutes after he averaged a career-high 36.8 minutes per game last season.

He played in just 66 games while taking on the massive minute load last year. A nagging plantar fasciitis injury made his status "uncertain" going into the Bulls' first-round series against the Brooklyn Nets. He went on to play all 12 games for the Bulls through their playoff run, logging over 40 minutes in four games.

Noah played in one game during the preseason for under 20 minutes. Nazr Mohammed has handled starting center duties in four of the Bulls' six exhibition contests.
