Jamaal Tinsley’s return to Jazz in the works, according to reports

The Utah Jazz are working on a deal with veteran point guard Jamaal Tinsley to fill in for rookie Trey Burke, who will be sidelined for another few weeks with a finger injury.

The Utah Jazz didn't have point guard depth before rookie Trey Burke fractured his index finger in the preseason, but now they're turning to a familiar face in Jamaal Tinsley to help run the show. ESPN's Marc Stein reported that one insider says it's "only a matter of time" before the Jazz bring back Tinsley, who spent the last two seasons with Utah.

HoopsWorld's Alex Kennedy reports that it's closer to a done deal and pending a physical, Tinsley will join the Jazz for Friday night's preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Burke underwent surgery on Oct. 15 and won’t be available for another two weeks at minimum. Initially, the Deseret News said the injury would cost Burke from two to three months, but the paper retracted the report, according to SI.com.

Utah will reevaluate the injury when a cast is removed. The Jazz will be relying on backup point guard John Lucas III in any case, but there's little left on the depth chart behind the journeyman and the non-guaranteed contract of Scott Machado. So the answer might be Tinsley, who averaged 3.5 points and 4.4 assists with the Jazz in 2012-13 and started in 32 games for a team that was searching for a starting point guard.
