Rockets will waive Marcus Camby, according to report

The 17-year veteran will not make the final roster cut as he struggles with a plantar fascia tear.

Steve Dykes-US PRESSWIRE

The Houston Rockets will waive veteran big man Marcus Camby on Monday, reports Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle. Camby has not been able to participate in preseason or training camp since tearing his plantar fascia, leading the team to decide against keeping the 17-year veteran on their 15-man roster that must be submitted to the league by Monday.

Yahoo! Sports’ Marc J. Spears was told by Camby’s agent that the big man underwent surgery for the injury on Friday and will miss two to three months.

Camby also dealt with foot injuries with the New York Knicks last season, playing in just 24 games. The 39-year-old center was trying to improve his condition without undergoing surgery that could keep him out for several months, but was unable to make enough progress for Houston to carry him into the season.

The Rockets signed Camby to a one-year, veteran's minimum contract after the Toronto Raptors bought out the remainder of his contract when was traded to the team. Camby averaged 1.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game last season and would have likely seen limited minutes behind Dwight Howard and Omer Asik.
