Danny Granger injury: Pacers forward will miss first 2 games

Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger suffered a calf strain on Oct. 18 and will be brought back slowly.

Marc Lebryk-USA TODAY Sports

Indiana Pacers forward Danny Granger will be held out of the first two regular season games as he rehabs a calf strain suffered in the preseason, head coach Frank Vogel told Pacers.com. That means he will miss games against the Orlando Magic and New Orleans Pelicans on Oct. 29-30.

Granger's earliest return could be Nov. 2 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Granger injured his calf Oct. 18 against the Chicago Bulls. Previously, Vogel had said his forward would be brought along slowly but didn't present a timetable -- he only said the forward could be sidelined to begin the season. He will be replaced in the starting lineup by Lance Stephenson, who came on strong last season while Granger played just five games due to a knee injury.

Indiana played Granger in five preseason games and gave him extended minutes in the first three. The forward scored in double-figures in two of his last three preseason appearances and appeared to be finding his legs.

In addition to making Stephenson a starter, the injury could present an opportunity for the Pacers to give rookie small forward Solomon Hill playing time. Hill was taken 23rd overall in the 2013 draft.
