The NBA announced it has fined Memphis Grizzlies forward Ed Davis $15,000 for an excessive foul on Houston Rockets big man Donatas Motiejunas on Friday. The play was labeled as "excessive and unnecessary contact" by the league, according to the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen.
Grizzlies’ Ed Davis fined $15,000 for hit on Rockets big man Donatas Motiejunas
The NBA handed out a fine to the Memphis Grizzlies forward for an excessive foul.

Davis was ejected from the game after hitting Motiejunas in the face on a block attempt. On Monday, Davis reacted to the suspension via Twitter by retweeting the news and saying, "Ouch."
The league has appeared especially strict this preseason regarding hits to the head. Phoenix Suns forward Markieff Morris was fined $20,000 and suspended for the first game of the regular season for putting an elbow in Oklahoma City Thunder forward Serge Ibaka's face during a box-out attempt.
Davis appeared in all of Memphis' preseason games and in five of the eight outings scored in double-figures. In 36 games with the Grizzlies last season after being traded from Toronto, Davis averaged 5.1 points and 4.4 rebounds and should expect increased playing time in 2013-14 behind forward Zach Randolph.
