Mavericks part ways with GM Gersson Rosas, according to report

Just months after hiring Rosas, the Mavericks are once again in need of a GM.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Mavericks parted ways with general manager Gersson Rosas on Tuesday, Marc Stein of ESPN.com reports. The news comes as a bit of surprise just months into Rosas' tenure in Dallas -- and one day before the team's regular season begins against the Atlanta Hawks.

Hired away from the Houston Rockets' front office in July to help overhaul management in Dallas, Rosas was "initially targeted by the Mavericks to bolster their pro and college scouting efforts after working extensively with the Rockets' successful D-League franchise," according to Stein.

He says Rosas pushed to become the team’s head of basketball operations, but he was only brought in to “inject new voice/ideas in [a] supplementary role” to longtime longtime president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson. That disagreement ultimately led to Tuesday’s parting.

As the team's general manager, Rosas made few moves as the dust had already settled on the team's offseason. The day after Rosas joined the franchise, Monta Ellis signed a three-year deal in Dallas, but it's unclear how close the deal was prior to his hiring. In August, the Mavericks signed DeJuan Blair with Rosas at the helm, arguably his biggest move as GM.

It appears the Mavs’ front office is in flux just a day before the 2013-14 season tips off.
