Kobe Bryant injury: Lakers guard jogging, shooting set shots

Kobe Bryant has been making small strides toward returning and on Wednesday took the court by himself.

There's still no timetable for Kobe Bryant's return, but every small progression toward one after he tore his Achilles tendon will have the Los Angeles Lakers' attention. On Wednesday, Bryant took the court by himself to shoot and jog up and down the floor, according to ESPN Los Angeles.

He’s not graduated to jump shots yet, but it was the first time Bryant had been seen back on the court doing basketball-related things.

Silver Screen and Roll: More on the Lakers

“He’s going up on his tiptoes,” Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni said. “I don’t think he was jumping, but it wasn’t flatfooted. It was set shooting.“And it’s a promising sign for Bryant’s eventual return. According to ESPN, D’Antoni said last week that Bryant had advanced during his workouts from running on 75 percent of his body weight to 80 percent on a gravity-controlled treadmill. The jogging on a regular basketball court was yet another positive step forward.

In the meantime, the Lakers will continue practicing without Bryant and looking for a replacement in the starting lineup.

Bryant injured his Achilles in a game against the Golden State Warriors and then underwent surgery on April 13, meaning mid-October will be six months since the injury.
