Kobe Bryant going to Germany for knee treatment

The procedure, which is not related to his recovery from an Achilles injury, has been planned for awhile.

Guard Kobe Bryant was away from the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday and headed to Germany, where he will undergo another round of platelet-rich plasma therapy, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. Coach Mike D'Antoni said the procedure was planned, according to Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times.

A few offseasons ago, he traveled to Germany and underwent Regenokine treatment on his knees more than once, according to Jonah Lehrer, who discussed the treatment in great detail for Grantland.

Bryant tore his Achilles and underwent surgery to repair it on April 13. He made his first visible return to the court Wednesday to shoot and jog on the court before leaving the Lakers’ training camp. A return date has yet to be announced for the Lakers guard, but Bryant has maintained he’s well ahead of schedule in recovering from his Achilles tear.
